Next cosplay: OC Drider, Qilune of House Kenafin. (Drow: Fated Foe, Sworn to the Web)
Alternate: Vriska Spidersona (because it’s so easy to just replace wigs and face paint, why not? It’s canon anyway. :D)
Chasz’ral Kenafin was the second highest ranked male of House Kenafin, and while with such a position there was little power to be offered, Chasz’ral’s skill in archery was well known, as was his more infamous tactic of not tipping his arrows with poison. Nevertheless his darts always found their mark, and grudging respect for such an ability was the result. During a surface raid, for an unknown reason (perhaps sparing a surface elf, as whispers say) he lost favour with Lolth. This act of disfavor meant that he was marked, and a stain appeared on the house. The Matron Mother offered Chasz’ral to Lolth for Driderage, an act that remedied Lolth’s displeasure. Over the next twelve hours Chasz’ral suffered painfully during the transformation. At about that time a lesser house attacked House Kenafin, perhaps to acquire Lolth’s favour by destroying a house that showed weakness. During the chaos, Chasz’ral returned to his home to find it ablaze. Thinking the house was destroyed; Chasz’ral looted the weapons chambers for various items and escaped, killing as he went. In fact House Kenafin was not destroyed then, but Chasz’ral’s flight was mistakenly believed to be a final stand and he was never disowned. He fled into the catacombs of the Underdark, where he struggled to eke out a life among the violent Driders.
About a year later, Chasz’ral Kenafin found a mate among the Driders. Who she was and what happened to her is unknown, but from their union Chasz’ral came to own an egg sac. Living in a secluded tower, the former drow raised his five children as best he could: three daughters and two sons, all pure-blooded Driders. He taught them to hunt and fight and survive, but he also taught them compassion even though it was what made him into a Drider in the first place. He also passed down his house name to them, as his mate had none. This meant that all his brood belonged to the tenth noblest house in Menzoberranzan. As he was unaware of House Kenafin’s survival, Chasz’ral considers himself and his brood to be the last Kenafins.
His eldest daughter is Qilune Kenafin (pictured). Since she was born a Drider, she was never under the torment that her father felt. She was also never exposed to the negativities of drow society. Nevertheless the innate elements of her heritage, a trickster nature and a very cunning, devious approach to her activities are proof enough that even a good upbringing is not enough for a drow or Drider. Chasz’ral taught his daughters and sons the art of the weapons that he brought back from the burning house, but only Qilune took after her father and mastered the bow. Like him, she chooses not to use poison on her arrow tips. It was a hard life living amongst the Driders and occasionally facing drow, but the family persevered.
Then one day, the Priestesses of Lolth held a purge, intent on capturing rogue Driders to serve the drow of Menzoberranzan. It was called a purge because anyone who resisted was destroyed…and many resisted. Unwilling to let his children suffer; Chasz’ral took his family and fled through the Underdark. The run was long; the drow almost caught them many times. One son opted to defend his family and distract the hunting drow while the others escaped. He was not close to Qilune but she remembered his name and face ever since he made the sacrifice. Whether the boy lived after the chase is unknown.
The remaining three daughters, father and son eventually escaped to the surface lands, but the drow were still close-by. Fearing that staying together was what was calling attention to them, Chasz’ral had them separate, giving each some magical and deadly items to help them survive. Two daughters went off on their own back to the Underdark but south, while Chasz’ral took his son to the west across the surface. Qilune opted to go east on her own. For her courage and his unwillingness to see her go, Chasz’ral gave her a sheathed blade, his abdomen protector and his magically charged bow, along with a few small magical artifacts for Qilune to use. Thus inheriting these items, the three parted. What happened to the rest of her family is unknown, but Qilune Kenafin made haste into the night to avoid the drow. As she is still alive, she succeeded.
